NIJ 2014: UNUSUAL IS THE SLANG

GRAND OPENNING AND INTER SCHOOL DEBATEThe students were put in an exciting mood as Ali Baba cracked their ribs, while Pryse of Chocolate City Serenade the crowd to her hit song and the students danced along.
Yaw and Dotun were not left out as they dished out some advise to the students to be of good conduct and behaviour.
CULTURAL DAY
Meanwhile on Tuesday, The Yorubas, Igbos and Hausas were dully represented as it was a day set aside for students to remember their cultural heritage, students took to their traditional attire, as various dance steps and gestures spoke on their behalf where they are from without having to loss a breath.The cultural day was graced by the Bale of Ogba who took time to advise the Journalists in making to be a good ambassardor of the institution and the country at large.
LECTURE AND NOVELTY MATCH DAY
The third day of the event had in attendance Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the Interim Secretary and Public Analyst of All Progressive Congress, who gave the lecture of the day. The APC spokesman addresses the Insecurity of the nation and stresses that the Jonathan administration has to understand the importance of opposition parties in Nigeria and that they are not what they accuse them of.
On the same day, there was football match between the Lecturers and the Students in which the stuidents thrashed their lecturers 4-1 goals and breaking their losing streak against their lecturers since the inception of the Students Week 4years ago..
RAG, MOCK ASSEMBLY AND BEANS CARNIVAL DAY

The contestants came out dashing in their Journalistic and traditional attire, Dinner and casual wear, with smiles and hope of being crowned the 2014 Mr. and Miss N.I.J, but unfortunately only two individuals are destined for the throne.
After their brains were put to test with personal and current affair questions, the time to announce those the crown fit came and the winners are; a student of National Diploma1 Ndukuba Chukwuebuka became the Mr. NIJ and James Ikpeme Diana a student of Higher National Diploma1 was crowned as Mrs. NIJ.
GALA, AWARDS AND DINNER
The long week event finally came to an end with a Dinner party which saw various students of the Institution being honored for their individual and group contribution to the schools development. Among such honors were BEST STUDENT, MOST SOPHISTICATED STUDENTS, LIBRARY ICON, MOST INFLUENTIAL and MOST FASHONABLE among other awards.
The MC of the night also had his time, as he made laughter the order of the day.
The crowd went gaga when their course mate, Korede Bello of Mavins Record took the stage.

World Cup: The Anticipated Tournament is Here
The much anticipated FIFA World Cup tournament (Brazil 2014) is finally here again with the hosting nation, Brazil thundered Croatia 3-1 by the commencement of the game on the 12th of June 2014.
FIFA World Cup Brazil 2014 promises of unusual as it is that the unbelievable happen to Spain (The defending champions) humiliated by Holland 5-1, the first runner up at the previous world cup tournament hosted by South Africa (Bafana Bafana).
However, the matches continues has they have been many matches played with interesting results like Uruguay 1-3 Costa Rica, Mexico 1-0 Cameroon, Chile 3-1 Australia, Colombia 3-0 Greece, Ivory Coast 2-1 Japan, England 1-2 Italy, Switzerland 2-1 Ecuador, France 3-0 Honduras and the remaining countries matches are scheduled as at 14th of June 2014.

STUDENTS’ WEEK: LECTURE & NOVELTY MATCH

The Nigerian Institute
of Journalism (NIJ), Ogba, Lagos held her 4th Annual Edition of the Students’
Week of the year 2014 tagged the year of the unusual (unusual is our slang)
which started on the 2nd of June lasted to the 7th of
June 2014.
The Students’ Week day
third which was 4th June started with a lecture on “The Role of
Opposition, Media and Youth in Sustaining and Deepening the Nigeria Democracy”
which was delivered by the Interim National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai
Mohammed and other dignitaries like the Provost of the Institution, Dr. (Mrs.)
Elizabeth Ikem, the Registrar, Mr. Dotun Adenijo and other members of the
school authority was in attendance.

before starting his prepared speech takes his time to appreciate the students
for having him and that he is honoured to be here “I really want to appreciate
the organizer of this events for what they’ve put together” he said.
The day also witnesses
a record breaking novelty match between the lecturers and the students. It is a
tradition for the students to play their lecturers during each Students’ Week
and ever since the inception of the Students’ Week that the students had been
playing with the lecturers, they have not been any success has it is that the lecturers
has always edge pass the students.
The year of the
unusual really happens has the students’ breaks their lecturer’s unbeaten
streak by thrashing their lecturers with a 4goals to 1 which has never happen
since the inception of the students week 4years ago.
Speaking with one of
the students who is also the school team new captain, Charles Odidika who
scored twice during the novelty match against the lecturers said “Yes , this
our year of the unusual has it is that we break the tradition of lecturers
beating the students in every novelty match during each students week”.
“I particularly,
really am happy for our success as being the school team new captain because it
is a part of achieving victory for the school and also for the players” Charles
concluded.
Another student that
played during the novelty match is Shina Omolola, said that we are the new
generation and truly it is really the year of the unusual.
